OVERVIEW

Clinical Laboratory Sciences Specialty is one of the major medical specialties in the medical system; where the clinical laboratory specialists (illness investigators) are responsible for conducting laboratory diagnoses and investigations; according to the latest laboratory techniques; to provide the essential information used to make diagnoses and plan treatment.

Clinical Laboratory Sciences include different disciplines divided into four major pathways; which are:

  • Medical microbiology
  • Clinical biochemistry
  • Hematology and blood transfusions
  • Histology and pathological cells

Graduation Requirements: Students are required to complete 134 credit hours in a four-year period and obtain cumulative GPA 2 out of 5 at least. A one-year internship is also required to achieve a Bachelor’s degree.

Clinical Laboratory Science (CLS) department is committed to provide an excellent academic learning and clinical practice experience for students in the field of Clinical Laboratory Sciences by providing them with the updated high quality knowledge, technical skills, professional attitude and scientific aptitude necessary for professional practice in medical laboratories and medical research projects. In addition, we mold graduates with professional ethics in conformity with global standards to contribute to the growth and advancement of the healthcare expanding demands in the kingdom.

GOALS AND OBJECTIVES

  1. Achieving and maintaining accreditation of the CLS program through the National Commission for Academic Accreditation & Assessment (NCAAA).
  2. Updating study plans and curricula of different fields of Clinical Laboratory Sciences.
  3. Continuously assessing and updating the undergraduate internship program.
  4. Development and implementation of an effective program of continuing education for medical laboratory technologists to meet the present and future health care needs of the Kingdom.
  5. Promoting research activities among department members, facilitate students in their research projects and arrange and provide guidance for research work by means of ever-growing research groups and chairs.
  6. Encouragement of official scientific publication of undergraduate students' graduation projects.
  7. Founding competitive post-graduate educational programs for Laboratory Sciences graduates.
  8. Raising public awareness of the discipline through conferences, symposiums and participation in charitable events.
